Siding and Cornice – Final Inspection Checklist for Home Builder
This checklist ensures that siding and cornice installation is completed to quality standards, with proper alignment, secure fastening, and no damage to materials. It also emphasizes thorough caulking and repair work, ensuring the site is clean and excess materials are properly stored before the trade contractor leaves.
Verify that all fasteners visible from the house interior are secured to framing members, and refasten any that have missed framing members
Repair and seal all broken insulation boards
Install siding according to the manufacturer’s instructions
Ensure siding is level and straight with no more than a 1/4-inch deviation over 10 feet
Verify that exterior trim is level, plumb, and undamaged
Ensure exterior trim is not split, broken, or has large knots or holes
Secure exterior trim tightly to framing members
Ensure gaps in exterior trim do not exceed 1/4 inch and have been caulked
Complete facia, rake boards, soffits, and soffit areas, ensuring all materials are undamaged with no holes, splits, broken boards, or large knots
Confirm that no siding boards are broken
Caulk and repair all holes, nicks, and gouges in siding
Clean the site, ensuring it is free of debris
Stack excess materials at the front of the lot
